Hey, Hey, San Jose

There’s a bear, there’s a bear!

Ok, that was not how this post originally started but then it took me longer to type it than I planned and I received an email with the following image-

A bear!

I want it now!  I have a matching hat!  And dude, that’s a quick shirt reveal- the race isn’t until October 6-7.

Ok, back to what I meant to say.

Rock n Roll San Jose has been on my radar for a while now.  I almost ran it last year but it conflicted with a local race I was running.  Not this year!

Some race facts-

  • This will be the 13th year Rock n Roll has run in San Jose with more music, runner support, and community engagement every step of the way.
  • Known for being California’s fastest half marathon
  • Has one of the most spirited courses in the entire series- like all the local school cheerleaders come out and cheer you on.
  • A full weekend of running with a Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and KiDS ROCK, giving runners the chance to take on the Remix Challenge and earn three medals during the race weekend.

Ok, so it’s supposed to be fast- well that’s because it doesn’t have a ton of elevation gain.  By my standards, it looks pretty flat.   I’m not usually a fan of flat but I am going to try to be.  Why is that? Because when I registered, I put down a finishing time I haven’t come near in years.   People it’s time to kick that 2013 PR to the curb.  The last time I was even close was 2015.    It’s been way too long.

Anyone else have a dated PR?

  1. my half and full PRs are quite dated, my 5K and 10K are a bit more recent (2016) but I’ll likely not be challenging any of them anytime soon unfortunately…this year, just happy to take what races my back will allow me to finish and see how things are at the end of the year…and, we were just in San Jose – well the airport on a stopover on our way back from Hawaii, so it kinda sucked – that has nothing to do with running or RnR San Jose!! Are you going to do Vegas again?

    1. I think my 5K PR is from 2015 too. I haven’t even trained or raced one for real since then either. The airport in San Jose isn’t bad, at least I liked it better than the Las Vegas one. I didn’t put my name in for Vegas- did you? I am thinking of making San Antonio my big trip of the year. However that will have to come after Big Sur– that hotel room is ridiculous!

      1. yeah, we did put our names in for Vegas but it will depend on how my back holds up through the year…our signature race is the Marine Corps Marathon in DC that we were supposed to run last year but had to defer due to my back injury…we have to do it this year!!

    1. Now if I can just follow through, haha. I am so happy that you had a great time in Phoenix! I try not to think about my second half- it was horrible- I am so glad that you had a good one!!! Other than looking forward to it, I am not thinking about San Diego yet. I sort of just realized how close Big Sur is.
