25- Baby Steps

Last week was better.

Well, a mountain lion moved into one of the elementary schools but that’s far closer to normal than the previous week.

I was still coming up with any reason not to run. Too hot, too much wind. I ate too much, I didn’t eat enough. Don’t want to wash my hair, forgot my shoes. Yada, yada.

I knew I was in my head and spooked due to the previous week’s events but I couldn’t seem to shake myself loose.

I watched lots of Disney movies in the evenings in an effort to distract myself. And finally on Saturday, I ran.

I slept in but made myself run as soon as I got up. I headed across town to run the river path. Although the river bed made me nervous, I was reassured by the number of people out. I swear I have never seen so many walkers, runners, and cyclists out on the path before. It was kind of awesome. It was by no means crowded but the number of people was kind of nice. And everyone smiled as people passed.

As for the running, it was kind of rough, but really what can I expect considering how unmotivated I have been this year? But it was still a little over 4 miles.

I then somehow had a burst on inspiration and cleaned my car and overhauled my closet and dresser. Also forgot to eat until I was trying to figure out why I was so lightheaded. Oops.

Sunday, I headed out for a late morning run in my neighborhood. Forced myself to run in both locations this weekend. However I knew shortly after starting my run that it would be more of a walk. Apparently I am so out of shape that 2 days of running in over 80* temps was too much. Ha!

So 6ish miles for the week. Yep.

19- Tide

I think I finally found some calm last week.

It wasn’t all sunshine and roses but the stress level decreased, I slept a little better and things were generally calmer. I am still sitting on some news before sharing it here but I was able to share it with the people who needed to know. Ok, that sounded more ominous than I meant it to.

And last week was full of creature encounters. We had a lizard get in the building at work and it took us 3 days to catch it and release it. A spider was lurking above my bed. A bat or a bird flew into my bedroom window in the middle of the night.

Anyways.

I was feeling spunky on Monday so I headed out for a few miles. I returned to the river path and while I stuck to the paved path, it was glorious. I so missed that route. I was equal parts impressed and embarrassed when an 8 year blew past me. He was on his way down the hill and I was going up. I didn’t feel any better when he blew past me when we were going the opposite directions either. Ha!! I did wonder why he was by himself though. While I loved the air and route of my run, my legs informed me that I should have rested after the previous day’s trail adventures. 3+ish miles.

Tuesday saw me listening to my protesting calves and sore foot and resting.

I was eager to run on Wednesday but my stomach had other plans. My rule of thumb is that if I am still getting sick 30 minutes before closing, running isn’t happening.

So of course, Thursday was the hottest day of the year so far. 95 degrees. I am slow as it is these days, so I was not ashamed of any walking. I ran when I wanted to and walked when I wanted to. I did keep it short though- 2 miles.

Work things were happening on Friday and I was looking forward to a relaxing weekend.

Saturday and I promised my mother for Mother’s Day we could try the beach for a run as long as it wasn’t crowded. Yay for clouds! She walked and I ran. I knew the humidity was going to do a number on my lungs so I told her I was only going to do 3 miles. Then I figured the pier had to be less than 2 miles from the dog beach where we started and I wanted to get to the pier. I was very wrong. The pier was 5k from the dog beach, ha! So my 3 mile run turned into 6 plus. I also have the habit of never checking the tide so I was racing the high tide. Some places I came to a crawl as I had to go over rocks. My shoes and socks were so drenched that I took them off after 5 miles and did the last bit barefoot.

As I had already cleared more miles this week than so many of the past weeks, I wasn’t stressing a run on Sunday. Instead, I finally cleaned my car. Oh boy, it needed it. And tires but that’s another story.

So just under 12 miles for the week. It’s sad that that is an improvement but it is what it is. Gotta keep moving forward.

9-Wreck

I am not gonna lie, last week was rough. On most fronts.

My stress level may have hit peak levels. I wasn’t feeling great either.

No running on Monday as I had promised to help my dad with something.

Tuesday saw a nice, fairly relaxing run. I just enjoyed the sky and cleared my head. It was great while it lasted. 3 miles.

We don’t talk about Wednesday. Nope. Nope. Nope.

I desperately needed a good run on Thursday. However, that wish was denied. I headed out for a run after work and it hurt. My left leg was pissed and it would not loosen up. I ended up calling it and turning around to hobble back to the car.

Friday was a compression sock wearing stress ball kind of day.

Road trip!!! Saturday dawned bright and early and I was off to Napa with my mother. A little shopping along the way and then it was off to the expo. Not gonna lie, I felt a little claustrophobic in the expo. It was a snug fit in a tight space. Then we drove to find the race start and then our hotel. I suck at maps. The hotel was over 30 minutes away from the start. Oops. After the draining week, it didn’t take much for me to doze off early. Now if only I could have stayed asleep.

Sunday- Napa Valley Half Marathon
Recap to come.

18ish miles for the week. Could be worse.

6-Up to 4

Oh lord, it’s been one of those weeks.

Ok, truth- I wrote that first line as an intro for a Ramblin On post on Friday but it never got any further than that line. Oops.

Last week was an odd one. Lights on and off, literally. Brain all over the place. Chopping my hair off. Binge watching Locke and Key. Finally deep cleaned my car. Then cleaned my closet too.

Monday- 1.65 miles I headed out for a run still feeling the irritation from the previous days long run. I didn’t anticipate the cold and the insane wind. I was so cold and I hadn’t packed clothes for that. After a cold few minutes and texts from mother trying to convince me to meet her for dinner- I caved.

I’m sure I did something on Tuesday but can’t recall what. Oh- I cut off my hair!

Wednesday- Yep, all blank here.

Thursday- 2.5 ish miles I would have liked to run more but this run was the final nail in the coffin for my pink Ghost 11’s. I’ve been feeling extra achy in them the last few weeks so I ran Sunday’s long run on my new Ghost 12’s and put the pink ones back on for this run. Nope. The shoes are dunzo.

Friday- haha

On Saturday I headed out in the early afternoon for a short run. I was going to dinner with my mother so I kept it short and sweet with 5K. The only bad thing about this run was that I was wearing a cute new pair of full pants and it was 70*! I was melting!

That previously mentioned Saturday dinner did not sit well with me and wreaked havoc on my sleep. When my alarm went off on Sunday to run I almost threw the phone across the room. Instead I went back to sleep. I ran some errands and then dozed off a bit. I was thisclose to bailing on my run entirely but decided to just go out and see what my body was willing to do. I got in 7.3 miles not the original planned 9. I was slow and sluggish but it wasn’t horrible. I was glad I went out and at least tried. Although my watch only shows 6 miles. I had a pause/ unpause moment when I stopped to snap the above pick. Doh!

So the miles weren’t great but I did move 4 of the 7 days. 14.8 miles for the week.

5-Started Good

On Monday, I lost steam towards the end of the day. The migraine from the previous weekend finally eased around 4 on Monday. I had lost the desire to do anything at all.

I asked my coworkers if I should run on Monday or Tuesday. Their answer? Both.

What?!?!

Monday- 3.3 ish miles
I headed out for a run just like they said. I kept the pace nice and easy and it felt pretty good. If you see my Strava- it looks really easy as I had a wardrobe malfunction. My sports bra came undone! I didn’t want to just stop on a dark street so I tried to fix it while walking and not flashing any passing cars, it took way longer than if I had stopped. Ha!

Tuesday- 3 miles
They said to run, so I ran. There was an unbelievable sunset so I probably spent more time gawking than running.

Wednesday- Rest
I had planned this as a rest day so it was good timing that my stomach decided to be an asshat.

I had planned on running on Thursday, packed my clothes and everything. But in my rush to get out the door in the morning, tripping over my cat and texting a coworker calling in sick, I forgot to grab my running shoes. Doh!

Friday– haha

A migraine had rolled in on Friday afternoon and was still present when I woke up on Saturday. I had to work in the morning but I was hoping it would ease up as the day went on. It didn’t but I still managed to be productive at work and then went down to SLO to enjoy the 70 something degree weather and spend money on running gear. Like I need more, ha!

The weather on Sunday morning was cold with 95% humidity, nope. However when I was running with 20-30mph winds that afternoon, I slightly regretted that choice. That and this run kind of sucked. I ran it at what should have been an easy pace but it felt so damned hard. So hard. I got a little emotionally frustrated at the end and may have said a few choice words with some watery eyes. I know it’s all my fault but it’s damn irritating. Still, 8 miles done.

14.2 miles for the week. Stronger than previous weeks but still a long, long way to go.
