17-Again

Another week, another… well something.

I think I need to stop waiting for things to calm down. It’s just adding stress. I feel like a giant stress ball these days. I know I am not the only one. I used to think I handled stress well. Ha!

Then the heatwave hit town and people got super cranky. And road ragey. I swear there were almost 3 accidents on my way home from work. Someone just let me hide.

And help, my mother keeps sending me TikTok videos. 😂

I made it out for a run on Monday! Except, I didn’t. All day long I was looking forward to my run. I changed after work and headed for my neighborhood. Once I started it was like the past few weeks caught up to me and I was so tired and just not feeling it. So instead I walked and breathed and just tried to look at things differently. Like how did I miss all the 50-60 foot tall trees? Sometimes it pays to slow down. 2 miles.

Plan was to take Tuesday off and run on Wednesday. I mean it was Earth Day! Except I didn’t run and right now I can’t remember why.

I did make it out on Thursday. It was warm and I was slow but other than that I felt pretty ok. I am getting the feeling that I am going to need to adjust to the heat rather quickly this year. 3ish miles.

I actually took my running gear on Friday but I don’t know why. HA!

Saturday morning arrived and I woke knowing the the migraine that had been lurking around the corner was now front and center. I tried to sleep in to fight it but failed. I barely did anything but hide in a dark room and rest on Saturday. Boo.

Sunday was more dealing with the migraine hangover. And a fight with a broken ceiling fan. We were not defeated though and a new fan is spinning away as I type.

So, yeah 5ish miles for the week. I am really struggling with motivation right now. Again.

How was your week?

14- Destructo

If you’ve been around this blog for awhile, you may have cottoned on to my proclivity for inflicting injury upon myself.

For crying out loud, my last 2 concussions were self inflicted (albeit accidentally). Oh and let’s not forget the time I gave myself second degree burns with ice packs. Actually I did forget- thanks Timehop for that memory.

And yet, even I am baffled on how I broke myself this time. By making the bed and sneezing. Even writing it makes me feel like an idiot. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I admit that changing the sheets on my bed is not the easiest- it’s up against two walls with a headboard but come on?!

So my body was contorted into a odd position messing with the fitted sheet. I felt a sneeze coming on but tried to hold it in for some reason. Not only did it not work, I felt an immediate sharp pain along my left side, heard a pop and I hit the floor. I have a pretty damn good pain tolerance but this…. Any movement made me want to scream, I damn near cried.

Once I managed to get myself off the ground, I made it to the bed and was pretty much prone for all of Saturday afternoon/ evening. Sunday, I made it to the chair but it’s not much better. However I did make it though Sunday without meds. Saturday was not the same. I had more OTC pain pills than ever before. My neurologist would be so proud- well sort of, she gets frustrated with me that I don’t use my stronger migraine meds when I have a bad one. I don’t like pain pills. So the fact that I took multiple days how bad it hurt.

So yeah, that’s how my week ended- how about the beginning?

Monday was good and I got in a short run after work. I don’t want to drive places to run but I don’t want to just run my driveway, so I stopped at another work office about a mile from my house, parked and ran the neighborhood that way. I was not prepared for the sudden temp jump to over 70 though. Wow.

Wednesday through Friday kind of snowballed. I had my running gear at work but we have had some of the busiest days ever. Even though our hours are shorter, we stayed longer.

Saturday rolled around and thankfully I didn’t have to go to a store so I slept in and headed out for an early afternoon run. Wasn’t a bad 5k even if my stomach cramped in a bad way a little past mile 2 and I walked it home.

Then thanks to my destructo self, it was all downhill from there.

And while I was lying in bed not moving, I decided to finally cave and sign up for Disney+ except it won’t play on my tv! Grrr.

At least it poured all day Sunday so I didn’t feel pissed I wasn’t out for a short run.

So how was your week? Anyone else disaster prone?

Week 38-Sundown

Think I am going to make my motto for the rest of the year to just roll with it. And roll and roll. And now I’m singing that song from Clueless.

Monday- 3 miles
I headed out after work to get in some miles. I was still feeling a little bit of the migraine fog. By the time I felt like I was finally warmed up and moving my legs, I was already done. Maybe I should have run more but I also didn’t want to push it.

Mood

Tuesday- Thursday- Rough
I knew I had off site training for work so I knew running was going to be tricky. I was hoping to get in a run or 2 in a new town but what I didn’t anticipate was the massive flare up my GI disorder. That was fun. Food and I were enemies. Even taking myself to Jamba the last day of training didn’t work. I was also starting to rethink my weekend plans.

*See, I thought I needed incentive to run 10 miles this weekend. So I looked online and guess what? There was a race in Huntington Beach! Nothing like drive 5 hours to run 10 miles. 😂

But I also was accepting that I was not ok. So I dropped to the 10k.

Oh-I did hop on the bike on Tuesday for a few miles.

Friday- Rest
I felt a tiny bit better but still felt like I had made the right choice downgrading.

Saturday- Surf City 10! Recap to come.

Sunday- Shopping
That counts as cardio right? I stopped at an outlet mall that I ‘ve driven past for years. It was amazing! I walked all over and shopped til I dropped. I bought running pants so fall weather, come on out!

11.7 ish miles for the week. I am winning at under trained. Ha!

How was your week?

Random Rambling 5?

Happy Friday!!!

I forgot to tell you about the run I had last week where I was chased by a peacock! Don’t know how I forgot that. And I now know that peacocks sound like a cat in heat times 10.😂

We had pizza for lunch this week at work. It was awesome. The next day we had donuts. I’m not mad at all.

I had big race plans for October. A month packed full of races and fun times. Now, half of that has changed and I am not sure how to fill the hole yet. But I have thoughts. Lots of thoughts.

I am still fighting a losing battle with the ants. I get that it’s 107 outside and they just want the water but I don’t want them in the house!

Anyone else in denial that summer is almost over? I mean school started for crying out loud. There’s already talk of Pumpkin things. No, make it stop! Not that I will miss the 104 degree days.

I was thinking about getting bangs but then I saw someone on tv who made a bad bang choice. Is that bad of me?

I need running buddies. If I had someone to meet in the morning I might actually get of bed when the alarm goes off. Ha!

What are you up to this weekend?

Week 26- Don’t Bet on Me

I wouldn’t even bet on myself.

I am my own worst enemy.

  • 2019 Race Schedule (so far):
  • 8/11 Oaktown Half (Thanks BibRave)
  • 7/20 Vintners 5 Mile or Rock to Pier 10K (not looking good)
  • 10/ 6 RnR San Jose (Thanks BibRave!)

I started the week with some drag and dropping of my training plan on Final Surge. I appreciate this feature with my training plan but the last few weeks, the ease of changing has enabled my inner Slacker to be even more Slacker like. I had a work function on Thursday and I knew I had to make adjustments for that.

I’ve also fallen into the bad habit of reading other blogs, but not commenting- I’m sorry! I’ve also stalled out in the book I am reading and the book I am listening to. May I should have called this post “Stall” since I kind of feel like that describes my running too the past few weeks.

Plan vs Reality

Monday 2.5 miles w/ strides/ 2.5 miles w/strides
I had originally thought about moving my hardest workout of the week to Monday but I was still dealing with migraine fog so I am glad I didn’t. I headed to the lake path for a few easy miles with 6 strides… or 7, I kind of lost count. My mom was out there too, she decide to join me and do a few laps of the lake herself.

Tuesday 1.5 miles/ 1.5 miles
I am really beginning to love these easy days. I am starting to realize that not every run has to be long to be worthwhile. Any movement is good movement. Sometimes I forget this.

Wednesday- 1.5 up/down, 2x 2mile repeats/ 1.4 up/down, 2x 2 mile repeats
I was scared of this workout. I didn’t think I could do it. I have also been starting to realize that I may have over reached with my goal for Oaktown Half and may need to adjust my pace settings. My goal for this workout was for each repeat to be at 10k pace- 9:32-9:49. I’m not there yet. But I tried- the miles ranged from 9:58 – 10:21. And they were hard. So hard. Oh did I mention it was almost 90 and I forgot water too?

Thursday- 1.5 miles/ Mixer
I had a feeling I wouldn’t run today due the mixer for work and that proved true.

Friday- 1.5 miles/ lazy
I originally planned on doubling up for this run and running 3 miles to make up for Thursday. Work was a little crazy and I ended up staying til close. I have a feeling I will likely do that most times I open- I feel guilty leaving before closing. Then I was just kind of done.

Saturday- 9 miles/ 3.1 miles
I was supposed to run my long run for the week but the snooze button was too tempting. So instead I headed out for a very easy 3 miler in the heat of the day. 95*- so much fun.

Sunday- Rest/ 5.5 miles
Once again, I was too friendly with the snooze button. Even as I was lying in bed, I knew I was just screwing myself over and only had myself to blame. Then as the day progressed and the temp rose, I was tempted to just bail on the run. However, after an internal argument, I made myself go for a run. Just run and see what happened. Well, it was 90* so what I got was a sluggish 5.5 miles. However that was better than being lazy.

So 18.4 /21.5 miles for the week and more red than green on my training calendar. Also a good amount of irritation with myself.
