Week 44: Monterey Bay Half Prep

Upcoming Races-

  • Monterey Bay Half Marathon (Thank you BibRave!)- 11/12
  • Oakland Turkey Trot- (Thank you BibRave!) 11/22

Another week on the road and I admit I was mentally fried.   I spent the week feeling like I was fighting something and just overall very tired.   I liked working in the San Diego office and the people I was working with but I missed home.

Monday- Rest
I had thought about running on the treadmill after work- I really needed to do laundry but I wasn’t feeling well after work.  I went back to the hotel and just kind of zoned out.

Tuesday-2ish miles
I did laundry in the hotel laundry again and hopped on the treadmill for a bit while I was waiting on the wash load.   Seriously less than impressed with those washing machines.  And my mileage. I was also feeling sorry for myself missing the Kip Moore concert back home.

Wednesday- Mes de Mas
Well, kind of.   I was modifying things so as to not sound like a herd of elephants to hotel room below me.  Then I was about 20 minutes in when I had a repeat of Sunday and was running to bathroom. Yay.

See you later, SD office

Thursday/ Friday- Nothing
My stomach was an asshat for the next 2 days.   Fun.  I kept a smile on my face and just kept working.

Saturday- Driving
I left San Diego early in the morning and arrived home in the afternoon.  Home!   After laundry and some errands, I was so happy to sleep in my bed.

Sunday- 3.1 miles
I slept in.  I did wake up and follow the New York Marathon on Twitter but I did not get out of bed.  😛    I headed out in the afternoon for a short run, I knew I should probably do a long run but didn’t want to.   Could someone tell me where the fall weather is?  It was 85*- why?  This run was not easy, it felt so much harder than I had hoped.  I guess after a week of slacking that was to be expected.
5.1 miles for the week.  Go ahead, laugh- I’m laughing too.  If I travel like this again, I will be better prepared.

How was your week?

Happy Friday!

Can I still be excited for the weekend if I am working Sunday too?

Remember a few months back when I was kind of freaking out about a really long solo drive?  Well, I am about to take a longer one.  Like today.    Wish me luck, I’m kind of freaking out again.  I have plenty of podcasts ready to go and lots of water.

In the same vein, I haven’t packed for such a long trip since I was a kid.  I outgrew my one bag and I still can’t help but feel like I am forgetting something very important.  What is it???

I am so not a fan of the darker evenings.  I’ve already had to bust out the Knuckle Lights on a few runs and they haven’t even been that long.   The time change isn’t even here yet.    I am fighting flagging motivation already and it is not a good thing.

I may use this travel week as a way to try and kick soda. We’ll see. If a McDonald’s is between my hotel and work, all bets are off.😛

Fried.  That’s how I would describe this week.

I knew it was going to be a hectic one and I thought I planned accordingly.   But well, life.

The week was already short due to the holiday and then I was off Friday to chaperone a multi-day tennis trip for my mother’s team.    I tried to cram all I could in at work in 3 short days as well as get in all my workouts before we left.

The plan called for a 6 mile run, 50 minute tempo, 9 mile long run and the last 4 Liift4 workouts.

Monday- 9 miles/ Liift4
Long run on a Monday- say what?? I knew the weekend ahead was going to be super busy so with a Monday off work I thought I would get my long run out of the way.  Yet, I woke up nauseaus again.  I did a crazy Liift4 workout in the morning and debated skipping the run.  I headed out in the late afternoon for what I was sure was going to be a 4 mile slog.   Instead I somehow had the best 9 mile run that I have had in over a year.     Hell, it was the best long run I’ve had in years.  Who knew?

Tuesday- Liift4
This final week of workouts was kicking my ass.  I don’t think I’ve ever sweat this much in my life.

Wednesday- Rest
I meant to do another Liift4 workout but my stomach was being a total asshat.  So instead I picked up some last minute supplies for the weekend trip.

Thursday- 3.75 miles
This was supposed to be longer but my legs weren’t feeling it.   This was actually slower paced than Monday’s long run too.  Way to bring me back down to earth legs.   My right hip was cranky, I really need to start doing my PT exercises again.

Friday/ Saturday- Tennis Road Trip
So tired, the days were long and stressful and so freakin’ hot!   I layered on sunblock, I stayed in the shade as much as possible, I wore a hat and somehow I still ended up with my worst sunburn in years.   It hurt.   By the time we got home on Saturday, I was just mentally done.  Teenagers are hard.

Sunday- Rest
This was not the plan.  I needed another 6 miles and should have completed the leg workout for Liift4.  However… the sunburn.  Owwww!  Everything hurt.  It hurt to the touch, it hurt to move, clothing hurt- there was no way I was putting a sports bra on.  Nope.

12.77 miles for the week.  Stupid sunburn!  Also the Liift4 challenge is complete even if I missed a few and I feel a little adrift.   Oops.

How was your week?

Rambling On 35

Let’s ramble.

It’s almost July, people, how??? I mean, seriously? It’s almost fair time.  Give me a funnel cake!  Well, in a month.  But in reality I am in denial that the fair is almost here… and that the year is half over.

I did it again.  I committed to a race out of town on the same day there will a local half in me hometown sponsored by my work.  Oops.

Speaking of work, I will be traveling for work at the end of next week.   Not gonna lie, I’ve never driven that far by myself so shout some podcast options to keep me alert on the long drive.

Summer heat has officially, fully arrived.  Which also brings fire season.  Can it rain at night?

Something angered the Instagram PTB and I’ve been shadow banned. Me? I’m boring- what the heck did I do??? Grrr.

Friday, everyone!!!

This week has been special- I’ve put my pajamas on inside out twice, reversed which eye my contacts go in (again) and had a rock chip  my windshield.

I also realized or remembered that I am still claustrophobic when it comes to medical devices. 😂 I finally had my CT for my abdominal/ flank pain and was surprised how far into the machine you had to go. I damn near freaked out. One second I’m fine then I’m trying not to hyperventilate. 😂 Oops.

The last local school graduates today and is it sad that I am excited that that means my commute should be a little shorter now?? For a few months I don’t have to drive through active school zones in the 3 towns. It’s the little things.

We were given permission to wear jeans all summer for work but in my office, we were all like- nah. We’re such oddballs but hey we can be oddballs together. 😀I’ll stick to my dresses Monday through Thursday.😀

My summer guilty pleasure Is back- American Ninja Warrior. I just can’t help myself- I love it.
