Radio silence

Long time no share.   I think that was the longest posting break I have taken since I started this blog almost 3 years ago.   I try to stick to a schedule of posting 3x a week so my one post last week was very lonely.  😞

I wanted to post but just didn’t feel like I was in the right head space there for a while.   I ended up taking Wednesday through Saturday off of running as well.    So attempt 1 of changing my weekly schedule didn’t work out.  A migraine rolled in on Wednesday evening and didn’t leave until Saturday.    Sometimes I run through them but this time I just decided to embrace the Slacker and rest.    The migraine was probably partially hormonal and partially due to stress so rest sounded great.  😃  I watched some tv, read some fanfic online (yes I am that nerdy) and maybe ate some things that I shouldn’t have.    I have zero regrets about that donut- I needed it for my mental health.    🙂

Just keep moving…. Thanks Pinterest

Work is in the process of getting a little crazier so I decided that I just needed some quiet time.   I work in a location with a smaller staff, only about 6, and 3 have given notice.    All are for different life reasons but the timing still makes me doubt myself as a manager.    There are some things that I have no control over and I know this but still that little voice in my head starts whispering.     Ugh.   Plus with 3 leaving, things are about to get really interesting.   I see some very long days in the future… Very soon.    I am trying going to stay optimistic and it is what is and we will get through it.  Where did the cynical Slacker go?

I am hopeful that I can stick to my usual running of 4x a week throughout  the coming weeks but if I have to drop a day I will.   We’ll see.   Also I need to get back on that schedule, I haven’t hit 4 days a week since the week before SLO.  oops!!   IMG_0336

I did get in some miles on Sunday.   On Saturday, my mother and I had headed into SLO for a little shopping.      One of those stops was the Running Warehouse.    It broke my little Mizuno-loving heart but I exchanged my Inspire’s.    I don’t know what it was but I just could not break them in.    I hate exchanging shoes,  I feel bad that they have to be sent back, but I do not have the room in the budget to just keep buying shoes.   I swapped them out for a pair of the Wave Rider 18’s.   Maybe they are what I should have gone with in the first place.  Hmmm, we’ll see.IMG_0355Sunday was Mother’s Day (Happy belated Mother’s Day to all you mothers!) and the day started with a nice run/ walk with my mom.  We did the usual walk for a bit then I would run ahead and double back.    I was feeling a little tired and sluggish but after 4 days off, I wasn’t complaining.   Plus it was my first run in my new shoes.   🙂    In a completely unimportant note, these shoes sure are pretty, I hope I like them.

So I am hoping to get back to the regularly scheduled programming this week.   Hopefully in all areas, fingers crossed!

How was your weekend?  Mother’s Day?

Ever needed a time out? What did you do?

  1. My weekend was awesome! I had a race, and my birthday 😀 I hope your new shoes work out, and I’m glad you could exchange the others. It’s always a bummer to drop a bunch of money on shoes that don’t work. Thankfully, Fleet Feet has an amazing return policy!

  2. never have regrets of a donut.! those things are amazing. lol
and time outs are important at times.! I know I take lots of breaks from blogging. idk why but blogging stresses me out the most. and I just need breaks from it sometimes.
Hope you get to enjoy those pretty shoes.!

    • Right? I knew I shouldn’t with my restrictions but I needed that donut. It was so good. 🙂
Blogging can be stressful, between wanting to post regularly but then wondering if there is anything worth posting can be hard. I live a fairly predictable life so I am sometimes afraid I will bore people. 🙂

  3. Nothing wrong with a timeout – sometimes work and life just take over! (I’m just coming out of one of those phases myself…) Thankfully, running and blogging will always be there whenever we can get to them. = )

  4. Taking a time out is definitely important now and then! Hopefully, you can get some replacements in for the departing employees soon. I know it will be tough for awhile (I’ve been there!) but you’ll get through it!

    • Similar things have happened before, I think I let myself get spoiled by the fact that the staff hadn’t changed much in the 2.5 years we’ve been open. It’s going to be an interesting few months. 🙂

  5. Gotta love new shoes. Glad your feeling better. My posting has been hit or miss lately. I keep trying to get back to a regular schedule, but life keeps getting in the way.

  6. I’m a big fan of time outs. I get behind on my blogging all the time. It’s a rare week that I find the time to post as much as I want. BUT if I didn’t have a busy life I wouldn’t have as much to post about it so I guess that’s how it goes 🙂

It helps me to remind myself of my priorities. I don’t feel as guilty about missing a blog post if I remember that the other things going on in my life were more important.

    • Living life comes first and I think sometimes we forget that. And like you said, it would be very hard to blog about nothing if nothing was going on. 🙂 Last week, I was mostly afraid the posts would quickly become a negative, whiny rant and while sometimes that might be ok, I just needed a few days to stew before moving on.

  7. Sorry to hear about all the staff who quit and “welcome to the club”… I’m fighting in the exact understaffed situation. Aaa!

  8. Love the new shoes! I hope they work out for you 🙂
I’ve never hear that Einstein quote before, but I really like it. It’s very fitting.
I hope the job situation doesn’t get too crazy and you get some great new help soon!! Good luck!

    • Thanks! Fingers crossed! 🙂
I love that quote but it makes me laugh at the same time. I know if I were to take it literally, I would fall off the bike! I choose to ignore the fact that I can’t ride very well and hope that lack of skill has little bearing on life. 🙂 Hmm, that got kind of ramble-y.

    • It’s the first time I actually asked the store for a particular color. 🙂 I didn’t think I was going to need a break after SLO but apparently the rest of me had other plans.

  9. I feel like when you just really need a rest, taking the break will only do you good. It’s happened to me a few times, and I’ve never regretted it. Those shoes are really pretty sweet! I hope you like them too!

    • It was kind of nice, I may actually have to start taking my vacations days or spread them out or something. This work til you drop thing doesn’t seem to work anymore.
So far so good with the shoes!

  10. Poor you. It sounds like it’s been a hard few weeks. However, a rest can only do you good 🙂 Awesome running kicks too! Motivation to get back out 🙂

      • Absolutely yes… And they ARE amazing… The world will thank you for getting them out there and making everyone jealous!

  11. Breaks are good. Think of it as a lovely little Control-Alt-Delete. Here’s to the reboot!!!! Oh. And totally cute shoes. 🙂

  12. Oh my gosh – I didn’t know Running Warehouse was an actual store. I just thought it was my online mecca. I LOVE Running Warehouse. I have to jump back into running as well and I know these ol’ lead legs are going to struggle. I’m going to send some optimistic vibes your way for work!
