Week 34- Kind Of

Upcoming Races-

  • SLO Ultra 5 Mile
  • Rock n Roll San Jose 13.1???
  • Rock N Roll Las Vegas 5K
  • Rock N Roll Las Vegas 13.1!!!!!

With less than 80 days to go to Vegas, I figured it was about time to add it up top.  😛

While this week was better than last week, it was still very lazy, a little too Slacker like even for me.  I was still taking it easy after last week’s UTI and antibiotic fiasco.    Truthfully, I have no idea how long I am supposed to take it easy.    ” A while” is very unspecific.

Then, I’ve been blaming all my tiredness on either the conversion or the fact that my bed is crap and I’ve only been averaging 5ish hours of sleep a night.   Found out last week there’s another possibility.  Thanks to some blood work ordered by my neurologist, we now know my thyroid is in the crapper.  Which is not cool as I am already on a high dose thyroid medication.  The call your primary now call is not a lot of fun.  The blood work trip was interesting- the tech couldn’t find a vein and the man in the room next to me almost passed out.   I hate needles.

So what did I actually do?

Monday- 2.3 miles I headed for the lake path after work thinking that it was nice and flat and would be a good place to try and run.  My body was not on board.     I struggled for 2 laps of the lake before deciding that I was dong more harm than good and called it.

Tuesday/ Wednesday – Nothing– Called it rest.  My bed is starting to make my body hurt in the oddest damn ways though.   Blood work on Wednesday.

Thursday- 3 miles  Headed for the river path and planned to go soooo easy.  Walked the first 14 minutes and then ran 1 minute, walked 1 minute, repeat.  Even on the downhills.  It felt so much better than Monday.   Even though my legs were very confused on the downhill walking portions.  😛

Friday- Rest I had a little dizzy spell- 1 of 3 this week actually- yay hormones.  So I treated myself to a very large burger at lunch.  Didn’t feel guilty at all.

Saturday- Rest  Tried to catch up on my sleep.   Dinner the night before hadn’t agreed with me so I decided to just run errands and avoid the heat.  I could do a longer run on Sunday.  I went bed shopping.  So many options!  I have no idea what to choose and man are they expensive.

Sunday- 3.3 miles   Except I hit snooze a few too many times.  Then it was 103.  Then 105.  I was losing all motivation to run.  I was tweeting about.  I knew that if I waited until it cooled off I would not run.  But it was too hot to run.  Oh wait, I have a gym membership I never use.  Seriously.  Haven’t been since last November.  I Hate the treadmill.  But I changed and drove myself across town.  I walked the entire first mile just to be sure I was going to be in massive pain like my last treadmill run.  No pain, so I started running.  It wasn’t horrible!   Only had time to squeeze in a few miles before Sunday dinner since I procrastinated so long but it’s better than nothing!

8.6 miles for the week.  Twice last week so at least they are going up.  Which is good because there is a list of races up there!  Here’s hoping I can get an actual long run in this week.

How was your week?

Any bed buying tips?  Anyone have a memory foam bed?

    1. I didn’t mean for it to be all bad news! But yeah, I feel like I’ve been sick for 2 years now. Boo. I’m still thinking about San Jose, gonna talk to the Doc first tehn go from there.

  2. Last week, I only got 11 miles in – which is 3 miles short of my minimum goal. But was 7 miles short of my training plan. 4 of my last 5 weeks have been lower-than-I-want/need-mileage. I’ve been trying to take it in stride! Honestly, I think my 10 mile run took more out of my body than I anticipated – and then the allergies that turned into infection – I’m feeling much more on track!

    1. 11 is great! I am pretty sure you are a few hundred ahead of me for the year. I hate allergies- they have been so bad this year!! Take care of yourself then the miles. Your miles have been freakin’ awesome!!

I usually get whatever queen mattress I can find and splurge on a memory foam mattress topper. Then I put a mattress cover over the whole thing to keep it from sliding.
Overstock usually has good prices for both.

Boo thyroid and bad bed! 😦 I’m sorry. I hope things improve ASAP!! We got a new mattress and new pillows a few years ago when I was having awful shoulder/neck issues and I still love them. But I’m useless because I don’t remember the brand or type! We just went to a mattress store and laid down on a bunch in the showroom. Good luck!

    1. I always feel so awkward laying down in the showrooms. I know we are supposed to but it just feels weird. Plus, what is is 5 minutes in a show room going to tell you really? Too many choices!

  6. Oh no! I’m sorry to hear about your thyroid and your dizzy spells. Did they check your iron when you had your recent blood work? Here’s hoping to a better week next week for you!

    1. I don’t think they checked my iron, I will have my primary check it when I see him about my thyroid. That’s a good idea. Thank you!

      1. I was anemic at one point in my life, so I know how it feels, and many women have low iron and don’t realize it. I hope you’re feeling better soon!

  7. Girl, sleeping all the time is what lead them to test my thyroid!! I thought I was not recovering well from a marathon I had run, but after 3 months of not being able to do anything but sleep, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s with Hypothyroidism!! I have had some tough runs/days training for Chicago. I think this may actually be my last marathon!! I am soooooo drained and get nothing done after the long runs and I have a tough time holding my eyes open at work after my mid-week longish runs.

I have a cooling top iComfort mattress. I like the mattress, but at this season in life there is no cooling things down/off. I am constantly a sweaty mess!!

I hope you have a great week!!

    1. I’ve been previously diagnosed with hypothyroidism and have been taking a high dose thyroid pill but apparently it’s not working. Guess that’s why I nap at lunch. Any why my pace had dropped 2 min a mile? Here I just thought I was lazy.

I don’t think I’ve looked at iComfort’s yet, that’s this weekend. I’m trying to hit all the Labor Day sales. 🙂

      1. I apologize for the late response, I thought I had replied to all my comments, but I must have been dreaming!!

I hope they figure out your dosing for you. I hate always feeling like I need a nap!!
