Week 7- Last Hurrah

  • 2019 Race Schedule (so far):
  • 3/24 Oakland Running Festival (more to come)
  • 4/28 SLO Half Marathon
  • 5-4 Wildflower (Thanks BibRave)  Canceled
  • 8-11 Oaktown Half (Thanks BibRave)

Yeah, I told myself I was going to cheer up and be positive last week, but nah.

I did try, I really did. I made it out for a short but sweet run at the lake on Monday so I started the week on the right foot. Then it all went sideways. On Tuesday, I received news that opportunity I was nervous/ excited about last week wasn’t going my way. Which while I kind of expected it, it still hit me where it hurt.

And started another moody spiral. Telling myself I was going to run and carting around a gym bag full of clothes does not count if you never change your clothes. However I do think I might have run a tiny bit more if we hadn’t received so much damn rain. Don’t get me wrong, we need rain desperately here but we are not built for it. The roads were flooding (some washed away) and people all drive like idiots in the rain. Didn’t exactly inspire me to get out the door.

So what does a moody runner not running do? Well they add 2 races to their calendar! Makes total sense, right? One is through BibRave to replace Wildflower since it was canceled last week and the other is through work. And hopefully goes better than the last time I ran it. You know that time I jumped out of my car on the freeway?? Good times.

So I gave myself one last weekend to wallow, think and generally just be in a funk. It wasn’t all bad; my mother has been bugging me to go shopping in SLO with her and we did that on Saturday. I may have done a little retail shopping and come home with a few bags. Ok, more than a few but I swear I didn’t spend that much!

So last week?

Monday- 2 miles
Short but every time I run at the lake, I can push the miles a little further. When does the time change? The creepy factor of the lake keeps me from running there in full dark no matter how many lights I have but I do love the sunsets.

Oh and that shopping? I picked up a new pillow cover to finish off the room re-do, however it hasn’t actually made it to a pillow yet.

Someone claimed it. 😛

How was your week?

Friday Shiny

Happy Friday!!!!!

So I kind of liked last week’s Guilty post.  Then I was thinking about my “motto” for 2015 and 2016- Find your shiny.  So while this week bordered on crazy and I could complain about any number of numerous items, how about I flip the coin and find the shiny.

Sunsets-

I never really saw these before I started running.  Or before I started commuting but that’s beside the point.   I’ve been running in work town lately and have had the opportunity to see some pretty spectacular sunsets.    Like come to a halt and stare sunsets.  I wish the camera on my phone did them justice.  In person, they are just awesome.  I usually stare a little too long and end up finishing my run in the dark but it’s worth it.

Dragons-

So, last post I shared my serious lack of long runs over the years.  I’m still kind of shocked by how well I lied to myself for so many years.    Anyways.  Looking for the shiny- This year I’ve run 3 10 milers, an 11 and a 12.  That’s actually pretty awesome!  Which leads me to dragons.    This image popped up in my feed the other day and the first thing that popped into my mind was long runs.   #runnerbrain  If running is a fairy tale then long runs are my dragons.  Time to get slaying.   Ok, maybe that was cheesy. 😃

You guys!!!-

Seriously.   Thank you for all the positive thoughts on my last post.  And Twitter.   The online running community is huge but small at the same time.  It kind of rocks.  You all rock.

See what I did there?😛

That’s all for now, but maybe I will do this again sometime.

What was your shiny this week?

Any fun plans this weekend?

Who’s running?!

Guilty….

but then again, not really.    I had a post mostly formed about insecurities and doubts but I am in an oddly good mood today and don’t want to spoil it.  So, I’m gonna hold onto that one ok?

Like I said, oddly enough I am in a good mood.  Not sure why, this week feels like it has been 10 days long already, Tuesday’s run was hard on the lungs and I’ve been hollered and lectured.   But, like I said, odd good mood.  The shoe can drop later, until then let’s talk about guilty pleasures.

Pizza–  Duh, of course I was going to start here.  Wednesday has kind of turned into my cheat pizza night.   Last week, I was disappointed.  I went to the usual place but the pizza was just meh.  Kind of too saucy and not very warm.  Boo.  This week, they made up for it.   Also, when this account follows you on Twitter, it may be a sign that you talk about pizza too much-

For real?

White chocolate macadamia nut cookies–  How have I never had one before?!   You’ve probably heard me mention that we have cookie Friday for the customers at work.  We are contemplating switching bakeries, so of course we have to try them all out.  😛 Seriously, this cookie was so good!

Sunsets– I mean look at this!!!!  The run might have been rough and my lungs were pissed but look at that view!    I also had a few tidal wave fears on this run but that’s not the point.  (earthquake and no birds= creepy silence). Sadly, I sometimes forget that scenes like this are right outside the door at work.  Seriously, I can see the harbor from the sidewalk.

New security??

TV– I have odd taste in TV shows.  Seriously between Teen Wolf and Downton Abbey– I think I run the gamut.  They both air on nights when I am usually trying to type up a blog post.   I spend more time staring at the tv screen than I do typing.  At least I can say I finally have somewhat of a clue as to what is going in Teen Wolf.   I was lost for like half the freakin’ season.  And I promise it’s not as cheesy as it sounds.    But let’s not talk about what else I watch right now.

My training journal– ok, this is actual guilt.  I haven’t written in my training journal since the second week of January.   Oops?  I am so bad at keeping those!

Online shopping–  Seriously, I browse websites all the time.  I put things in my cart all the time.  Then I let them sit there.  I can’t remember the last time I completed a purchase.

Races– Like most of you, I want to run all the races!!!  But I procrastinate registration, partly because I am gun shy but partly because I am lazy.    But, guess who registered for Rock n Roll LA on the first day it opened?  This Slacker did!   Dude, that’s in October!  I’m running it with Ashley and Heather and it’s gonna rock!!

And I thought I had more but I’ve forgotten what they were, oops!

How has your week been?

What was your guilty pleasure?
