Week 2- Ouch

  • 2019 Race Schedule (so far):
  • 3/24 Oakland Running Festival (more to come)
  • 4/28 SLO Half Marathon
  • 5-4 Wildflower (Thanks BibRave)  Canceled
  • 8-11 Oaktown Half (Thanks BibRave)

Well, this will be short and not so sweet.

I ran 1.6 miles last week. One run, less than 2 miles. I DNS’ed my first race of the year. I “rested” my foot for the majority of the week and I can still feel it. Grrrr.

Let’s talk about the one run I did do.

Tuesday- I runched! It was about half walking and running as I was unsure how well this was going to work out. I gave myself 20 minutes to cover as much ground as I could without getting to sweaty. I made it all way to the Embarcadero and back. Wish I could have run more but I was trying to be gentle on my foot and with a 45 minute lunch, I had time constraints.

Thing about the work run…

Then once the rest of the week went downhill, I did what any sane person would do- decided it was past time for a bedroom refresh. Tore most everything out of the room, fresh paint, fresh fixtures and fresh furniture. Changing myself might be a difficult task but the room I spend a lot of time in? I got this.

Ever overhauled a room on a whim?

Rambling On 48

I should be sharing my 2018 recap but typing it is taking me longer than I thought it would. I just keep slacking.

I have dual monitors at work now! It’s glorious! They are new and pretty and shiny and I love it. Only downside is that they are bigger (not the downside, that’s awesome) but I have been standing more this week and my back and feet hurt. My desk is a standup desk but it’s about 5 inches off the right height so it’s always been an issue so the adjustment curve this week has been a little steep.

Speaking of feet, my left foot still hurts. Sometimes it’s fine and other times I feel a dull ache across the bones along the top. This can happen when I am walking or sitting. Not cool. I’ve worn my comfiest flats all week. Which is kind of an oxymoron.

Which then leads me to this weekend. Castle to Coast is Saturday; 8 miles along an open highway with no real way to bail if my foot protests hard. Not to mention that I still haven’t felt well this week. I did call my doc 2 weeks ago to make an appointment but they can’t see me until the end of January. Not helpful. I am seriously leaning towards a DNS but I don’t know if my pride will let me do that.

Other than the race I am riding the fence about, I may repaint my bedroom this weekend. It’s been yellow for far too long and I need a change. Now I just need to choose a color.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

What are you up to this weekend?

Let’s Go Oaktown~

While I love running some of the same races over and over again, I like branching out too. I almost ran Oaktown half last year but didn’t for some reason. Right now I can’t remember what that reason was but I do tend to be forgetful like that, so…

Oaktown Half works in partnership with the people that organize the Oakland Turkey Trot. I was super impressed with that and I just participated in the virtual option, I am super stoked to experience all they have to offer in person on race weekend.

The race offers a children’s race, 5k and half marathon. They offer a challenge for the speedy as well- run the half at 7:00 AM and the 5K at 9:45 and earn a challenge medal. While I think that is awesome, I am not sure I can pull that off on race day. Last year the 5K was on Saturday evening and that seemed much more doable. This is still pretty cool though, gives me incentive to work on my speed between now and August 11. 🙂

There is also a challenge medal offered if you complete the Livermore Half in March as well. #allthebling!

The race even offers an expo-in-a-box option. If come July, I realize that race weekend travel may not be my thing, I can opt in for my bib, shirt and expo goodies to be mailed to me. That way I can just drive up on race day if needs be. Now that would be a 3 hour drive for a 7AM start so that doesn’t sound great but I love knowing that I have that option.

Week 1- Bumpy Start

And just like that we say goodbye to 2018 and hello to 2019. I celebrated the New Year like I usually do, quietly, haha. Big partier over here. You all partied for me right?

Last week was chaos at work. For a short week, it was the longest week ever and I swear we had 3 Mondays. I still wasn’t great and a migraine came to visit on Wednesday. It’s still here. Then I compounded the issue by wearing a new pair of shoes on Friday. They are super cute and I have worn thembefore but they are tight and I ran around ragged on Friday and now my left foot hurts even 3 days later. Crap.

I am planning on changing up these recaps up but I haven’t quite fully worked out how yet. So let’s recap the active things I did do. It wasn’t much thanks to rain and my foot but it was still more running than I did the last 3 weeks of December- ha!

Tuesday- 4 New Years Miles
I ran outside! Yay! I forgot how much I missed it. Ever since I was sick, everything seems cold to me so I was bundled up like it was 20 degrees cooler than it was but it worked for me. I ran surprisingly well though and powered up a few hills and then promptly had a wheezing attack. Haha! I also lost my Buff partway and had to take my car back along the running route to find it.

Saturday- Treadmill 5K
Rain came to town and I ran and hid. High winds and flood advisories, oh my. I did a few miles on the treadmill at a nice, easy pace. I felt a twinge in my left foot, I immediately slowed down but the twinge didn’t really go away. Not cool.

Sunday saw more rain and wind and a not happy foot. Instead of my 6 miler, I sat and watched the rain. Boo.

7.1 miles for the first week of 2019. Less than I planned but 3 times more than last week so I’m calling it a win.

How did you greet 2019?
How was your week?

Run to the Music -10

Oops, last time I shared a music post was just before Big Sur. Yikes! I would like to get better at that. Not because I am saying I have great music taste- I know I have odd music taste- but because I find them fun to read and fun to share.

Today’s adventure brings a song from one of my all time favorite bands. It’s a fair sight pop-ier than usual for them and at first I was on the fence. Then I was wasn’t. Now, I can’t help but love it. Plus it’s great for running, it’s hard to feel like you’re working hard when it comes up on the playlist.

Not The Only One- Papa Roach

On one hand, I am bummed it’s only a lyric video but knowing how odd their videos can get sometimes, maybe it’s a good thing. Oh and if you have an issue with flashing lights- be warned.

I like that it actually has a good message and isn’t as cranky as most of my music😛 Plus, it makes me randomly dance on the run. 🏃‍♀️

What are you listening to?
