Week 42- Whiplash

This weather is giving me whiplash. One day it’s 90 something then it’s 60ish with 20+mph winds. I actually like the lower temps but the fire winds could leave anytime. Soon would be better.

I had the beginning of the week off of work. I was so looking forward to a few days of rest and getting all those backed up errands done. Somehow, I never napped and the errands still need to be done. Like cleaning my car and an oil change. Oops. The time just seemed to fly by and then I was back to work on Wednesday.

Monday- 36ish minutes on the bike
I was going to run in the early afternoon since I had the day off. However I ended up taking my dad back to the doctor. By the time I got home, I was feeling super lazy but I made myself ride the bike while watching Ridiculousness. That was what my brain could handle.

Meltdown

Tuesday- 3 mile struggle bus run
I don’t know if it was because it was over 90 again, or if it was lingering asthma issues but this run was rough. I had originally planned on running more but just couldn’t.

Wednesday- 30 minutes on the bike
Wasn’t feeling a run but didn’t want to be lazy.

Thursday- 3.1 miles
Dude. This run was so easy, breezy. The temp had dropped, my heart rate stayed low and it wasn’t a struggle to legit run easy. It was such a chill run I was kind of in shock. Even the crazy wind wasn’t a downside. Why can’t all runs be like this?

Friday- Nope
Open to close is going to be the name of the game for a while at work. I don’t see much in the running front on any Friday in the future.

Saturday- Nap
I worked in the morning but I really did intend to run in the afternoon. I did but instead I napped for 2 hours. Oops.

Sunday- 6.3 miles
Miserable miles. I had plans of running 7-8 miles but hopped on the struggle bus from the get go. It was warmer than I thought it would be, my asthma was flaring, I was crawling. It was all I could do to finish the 6.3. I even parked it on a bunch 5ish miles in because I was so done. Grrrrrr.

12ish miles for the week. And Sunday’s miserable run was followed up by a massive asthma flare on Sunday night so that was fun. But hey 5/7 days isn’t bad! At least for me.

Week 39-Social

I had to be social this week. So social. I can’t people anymore.

First up was a mixer on Thursday after work. Then Saturday morning got as a volunteer for an event at the homeless shelter. Ok, truth that one was the best one and I had no problems helping out. But the kicker was the charity fundraiser dinner on Saturday evening.

Peopling is hard. So hard I make up words.🤣

Monday 2.5 ish miles
This is as my first run since the asthma attack fun of Surf City. My only goal was to keep my heat rate in the green and go for about 30 minutes. I felt like I was crawling but still spent half my time in Orange. 😒

Tuesday—- can’t remember what I did.
Sure it was something though. Oh wait- I had an all day work meeting. How did I forget that?

Wednesday 3.2 miles.
I had a crap day and just needed to run it out. Which I did by either hauling ass or walking text venting to a friend. Oddly enough my heart rate stayed lower which is funny considering my pace dropped into the 6’s and 7’s at some points. The things anger and a downhill can do for you. 🤣

Thursday- mixer and it was freezing.
Got to tour some more homes though!

Friday- Ill.
I woke up feeling super crappy. I blamed the massive swing in the previous day’s weather.

Saturday 8.2 miles
I had the volunteer shift in the morning and the fundraiser that night so why not throw my long run into the middle?😂 Actually the run was kind of great- kept a chill pace and felt pretty good. Minus the 2 miles where I was trying to shake some foot pain. I changed my route due to an off leash dog and then my left foot had a disagreement with a bump in the side walk. Graceful, I am not.

Sunday- oops
I meant to run, I meant to hit a trail. Then I started reorganizing my closet and dresser and that swallowed my day. Like it does every time I do it.

This week had its ups and downs in running and life, but like I said last week, I’m just going to keep rolling with it.

Week 32

Race week arrived and I don’t think I’ve had a bigger case of the whatever’s.

I worked hard for 13 weeks and then the last 2 was eh. Life, right?

Things were a little crazy last week as I canceled my hotel room on Monday and then rebooking another on Thursday. Work had it’s moments and asthma and I aren’t getting along. But I had a great race weekend to look forward to and I was bringing multiple people with me this time. More fun, right?

Except, I need to stay out of stores that sell purses. Full Stop, seriously.

Running wise though, my runs went surprisingly well.

Plan vs Reality

Monday- Up/down 1.5 miles, 2x 1 mile at goal pace/ 3.5 miles
I set out to do the workout but wasn’t feeling it. Instead I ran- ok mostly walked- a warmup and then ran 2.5 of the steadiest miles I’ve run in a long time. I’m counting it as a win.

Tuesday- 1.5 miles/ MM 100 7
I had post work plans and just decided to not even try to run. I did however squeeze in a MM 100 workout. While I love the workouts, I decided after this to put them on hold until after the race- my hamstrings were so tight.

Wednesday- 1.5 miles/ 1.3 miles
Ever have that vain moment where you think -“I’ve done a week of MM100 workouts, those cute shorts should work for running now”? Haha, nope. 1.3 was all my thunder thighs could handle.

Thursday- 3 miles w/strides/ 3 miles w/ strides
I did exactly what the plan said! Yay!

Friday- 1.5 miles/ Rest
Nothing but work and heading home to pack for Oakland.

Saturday- Road trip!
We all packed up and away we went. We did a little shopping, some pizza eating before checking into the hotel. Then it was more shopping and more eating before trying to get some sleep before the race.

Sunday- 13.1 miles
Oaktown Half – Recap to come.

21.02 miles for the week.

Week 29- Return

Ok, reentry to work was a little rough.

Monday and Tuesday were the last of my vacation days. They were hot ones. Not gonna lie, I was pretty lazy these days. I did finish a book so maybe not too lazy. Then it was back to work.

My body felt out of whack from sitting in my chair at work. I had a headache by the end of the day on Wednesday, Thursday and FRiday. Oh no, am I getting old?? I really do like my job, I just felt a little achy last week. 🙂

I got a little too flexible with the drag and drop feature of my training app. I had big visions of how the week was going to go. I really should just stick to the plan. I was also supposed to run a race on Saturday but that didn’t happen.

So instead of highlighting what I should have done, how about just what I did?

Monday- 2 miles
I was fried from Sunday’s trail run and anytime in the sun made me feel abnormally hot. I found a baggy race shirt, left the pack behind and made it out for a shuffled 2 mile run. T- shirts are hot! Who wears those?? Did I mention it was 100*?

Tuesday- 2 miles up/down, 6x 400 at 5K pace- 4ish miles
Still in the middle of a heat advisory, I took my sad self to the gym. I had originally hoped to run my long run on this day as it was the last day of my vacation but I knew that wasn’t happening on the treadmill. So I did Thursday’s intervals instead. The treadmill and my watch disagreed so even though the treadmill said I nailed my repeat paces, my watch had me a minute slower. Grrrr.

Wednesday- 2 miles
The temps dropped drastically so this was a breezy, cool 2 miles.

Thursday- Oops
Was planning on either my mile repeats or my long run but The Lion King called instead. And copious amounts of popcorn.

Friday- Nada
I have to start running in the morning. Even though I take my bag of gear inside every Friday, I don’t use it. By the time we close, I am just done. Especially this Friday.

Saturday- 10 miles
It was supposed to be cooler and I woke with a migraine so I pushed my run to the afternoon. It was 80 but there was a good breeze so it should have been fine. However I tried to throw my mile repeats into the workout instead of running a steady pace. Yeah, I flamed out. I finished the run but was off pace for both the 2 repeats I did and then the later “easy” miles. It was actually my second slowest 10 miles ever. ha! Thanks for that tidbit Smashrun.

Sunday- 4ish miles
I knew I was behind miles for the week and part of me planned on running twice this day. The other part won. I did run up and down a steep trail though. Ok, power hiked up and ran down but still. Again, I ran in the afternoon but it wasn’t too bad. The trail had its shady parts. Though I did kind of want to jump in the water at the end.

22.5/25 miles for the week. Still short but I am calling it good.

How was your week?

Week 23- Derail

Oh this week was fun.

Sense the sarcasm. It started ok but when a little wonky towards the end. Ok, a lot wonky. Normal June temps came back with a vengeance, power outages, broken toilets- oh it was fun.

Oh and I decided to start the week off with a 3 day refresh where I wasn’t eating a whole lot of solid food and drinking mostly smoothies. In some ways it was good and others it was a mess.

Monday 1.5 miles/ 1.5 miles
I thought about take a rest day post race but I was feeling ok so I headed out for my planned run. I was slow moving and sluggish but it didn’t feel to bad.

Tuesday 2.5 miles with 4 strides/ 2.5 miles with 4 strides
I flipped Tuesday and Thursday’s workouts as I figured I needed a little more recovery time. I am glad I did as this run was a slow going. While I did the strides they may have been the slowest strides I’ve done since starting this training plan.

Wednesday 1.5 miles/ 1.5 miles
The temps have finally swung to the hot side. This was a rough run. I still felt like I had lingering asthma issues from the race. I told myself it was the sudden temp change that made this run so hard.

Thursday 1.5 up/ down, 1.5 mile repeats x2/ Nada
I was exhausted. I don’t know when I have ever felt that tired. It showed at work too as everyone told me to stay away from them thinking I was sick. I wasn’t, just dog tired. I went home and just rested instead.

Friday 1.5 miles/ Nada
I had the late shift and I totally took advantage of that extra 45 minutes and slept. I meant to run after work, I was feeling a little better and I even had grand delusions of moving my long run to Friday evening. I mean it was graduation night but surely I could find clear roads, right? Then there was a power outage back home and it took out the tv’s. Apparently I’m the only one in the house who could fix them. So home I went- except after over an hour of trying I learn the issue was on Directv’s side and there was nothing I could do.

Saturday 7 miles/ 5.4 mile crap fest
I worked a Saturday shift but I set a very early alarm. Except when the alarm went off it was dark and cold and I was tired. I went back to sleep for a bit. Which meant I headed out 10 hours later with temps at 92. And it kicked my ass. I was melting. I overheated so bad, mine hands started swelling. I started with multiple walk breaks which turned to all out walking with multiple stops to hide in the shade. It was miserable.

Sunday Rest/ Rest
I thought about making up some of my missed miles. But instead I took a 2 hour nap. So when it comes to rest- nailed it!

10.9 miles for the week. Ouch. Fingers crossed this week swings back the other way.
