Week 12- Under the Weather

Upcoming Races:

  • Livermore 13.1 -March 26!!
  • Destination Races Santa Barbara 13.1- May 13
  • Rock N Roll San Diego 13.1 June 4

This will likely not be very long.  😛   Not a  lot happened last week unless you count coughing and sniffling.     Unfortunately I have yet to see any ab gains from all the coughing.  😛   A girl can dream right?

Monday- Sick-  I called in sick.  Who am I???  I got up and attempted to get ready for work but when it took me 20+ minutes to attempt to brush my teeth I conceded defeat.  I spent most of the day in bed.   The only movement was to move to the comfy chair when the bed got old.

Tuesday/ Wednesday- Rest/sick-  I made it to work both days but I was barely hanging on.   I was still coughing all the damn time and I had the worst sinus pressure building.  Grrrr.  I slept poorly all week as I spent most nights coughing.

Thursday- 2 miles- With Livermore 3 days away, I figured I needed to do a test run. I still felt miserable but I also needed to be realistic.  I bundled up like it was 30* outside ( it was 60) and headed out for short run.   Yeah, I walked the first mile and ran/ walked the second.   It wasn’t miserable but it wasn’t exactly pleasant either.

Friday- Rest-  My ears went funny on the way to work.  I was starting to seriously consider dropping from the half marathon to the 5K.       Work tired me out, how was I supposed run 13 miles?  Oh and the forecast still called for rain on race day.

Saturday- Road trip!  I packed and headed on up to Livermore.  Mom was along for the ride like usual and she let me know exactly what she thought of me running while sick.  😛    I was still debating about a 5k drop down.    After an uneventful drive up and a stop to eat for lunch at Pieology we arrived at the expo to pick up my bib.    After checking into the hotel we tried to do a little shopping at a nearby outlet mall but but we literally drove around the parking lot for 20 minutes with 100 other cars looking for a parking spot.  No thanks.   After dinner it was back to the hotel and an attempt to get an a decent night’s sleep.    Fail.

Sunday- Livermore Half? –  more to come on that.

Weekly miles- 15.1.  Guess that tells you what I ran.  😛

It was a long week of not doing a lot but I feel exhausted.   I am really hoping to be on the upward swing of this thing.  I miss sleep, I miss running, I miss what little breathing capacity I had before.  Ha!

This week coming is going to be interesting.   It’s merger week, so there is lots of overtime happening and some things are up in the air.   It’s going to be a very play it by ear week but I am hoping to get my mileage back up.  There was a trail race I was thinking about on Saturday but I can’t commit due to the up in air work schedule so I’m taking as a sign that I should probably not run up a mountain a week after a race.

How was your week?

Any plans this week?

Livermore Ahead

Livermore is here!

Well, in 3 days more accurately.

Which is great as I have been looking forward to it since November.   Something about it just piqued my interest post Golden Gate Half and held on to it.    So when I got the chance to run it through Bibrave, I was stoked.

Now, the downside.  I’m still sick.😷  I haven’t run since last Thursday.    I called in sick on Monday.  From all the coughing I’ve been doing, I should have abs by now.   Abs, where are you? 😛

Also the weather is predicting rain.  Where is California weather?   Actually, it changes every time I check my weather app, maybe I should just stop looking?

So all plans I had have changed.     I am looking forward to a hopefully fun run.   I want to enjoy the scenery of a new place and take it all in.    My mother is going with me like usual and I’ve already told her this will not be a speedy one by any means.   This is going to be a taking time to enjoy the view kind of race.   Sometimes those are the best kind right?😀

Ever run with a cold?

Any anti coughing tips for an asthmatic with a deviated septum?

Weekly Recap 11-Slap Happy

Upcoming Races:

  • Livermore 13.1 -March 26!!
  • Destination Races Santa Barbara 13.1- May 13
  • Rock N Roll San Diego 13.1 June 4

So yeah, last week was odd.  Don’t get me wrong, it was a good week.   I got a lot done at work, more things were completed in preparation for the merger- those all turned into funny situations too.   I got in a good run and a creepy run.    My stomach was a total asshat at the beginning of the week and I was abnormally tired but I was in a super good mood most of the week.   Maybe I should have realized that was a sign of things to come but I’ve never been too good at actually listening to my body.  I mean for crying out loud Friday’s post went up unfinished!  Sorry about that by the way.  😞

Monday- 4.25 miles– I love daylight savings.  I headed to home town after work and was able to run this entire run in full sunlight.  I took it really slow in the beginning as this was my first run in the new PureFlow’s.  From there I ended up running a nice (for these days) progressive 4 miles- 13:22, 11:04, 10:37, 9:06.  I say these days because that same day Timehop also reminded me that 3 years previously I set my unofficial 5K PB of 26:35.  Which is a far cry from the 11:00 ave pace of this run.

Tuesday- Rest/ Detox Yoga–   I got so damn tired on the drive home from work that I stopped at Target and wandered around it a bit in order to wake up.     My stomach had been horrible since Sunday so once home I tried some yoga to help ease some of the pressure.

Wednesday- Rest- Stretching/Foam Rolling– My stomach was still being a total butt face and work went a little late so I just decided a low key night was in order.

Thursday- 3.5 miles-  Creeper alert!  I headed to the lake path after work and was hoping for 5 miles.   There were more people out taking advantage of the extra daylight.  My legs were a little sore.  I’d worn flats a couple days this week plus breaking in the PureFlow’s with 4mm drop made for some sore calves.  Not enough to deter my run though.  What did was the creeper in the gold Thunderbird who slowed while driving past me then parked blocking my path.   Cars park on the path all the time so I wasn’t totally weird-ed out yet, only halfway there.  When I ran around the car, which reeked of pot and engine grease, as I cleared it- it revved the engine.   It then peeled out, spinning dirt everywhere, slowed while passing me again before squealing it’s tires again as it turned up a street.  All right, peace out, I’m done.   It might have had nothing to do with me but I wasn’t taking that chance.    I managed to find a group of Eagle scouts out for a stroll and put myself in front of them.     I tried to stay near their group while I got back to my car but I also didn’t want to turn into the creeper.

Friday- Rest-  I worked open to close and towards the end of the day I was getting slap happy.   I was having troubles putting words together properly.  Which should have been a sign.  Some people get cranky when they are getting sick, I get slap happy.   Yet it still didn’t dawn on me until that night when my throat really started hurting, my nose stopped working and pressure built between my ears.  Oh crap.

Saturday/ Sunday- Sick  My alarm went off for my long run on Saturday morning but I could barely move.  Seriously, my face hurt where the ends of my hair touched it.  My whole body ached there was no way I was running 10-11 miles.  I shut it off and thought maybe I could run in the afternoon, ha!    I barely moved all day.  I may have watched more than a few episodes of The Iron Fist on Netflix.  Sunday rolled around and while I hurt a little less I was nowhere near running shape.   Boo.

So yeah, 7.75 miles for the week.   I am trying not to freak out while I type that.    I have Livermore Half in just 7 days and I really wanted another double digit run before race day.  Plus that weekly mileage looks sad.  This was not the week I had been planning.   I’d actually planned on moving back to running 4x a week but instead I ran just twice.   Grrr.

And now I still can’t breathe and my eyes are crossing as I finish this recap.   So with that I will sign off.

Tell me about your week?

Do anything fun this weekend?

Rambling On 6

What up Friday?!  Woot Woot!

Ok, that was cheesy.  Sorry, it’s been an odd week.

So today is St. Patrick’s Day but it seems like everyone partied last weekend?  I was a little stumped by some things I saw on social media.  Then again, I’m kind of homebody so maybe I was the only clueless one.   I mean I can understand why you wouldn’t want to race the morning after St. Patrick’s Day.  Just ouch.

A sinkhole opened in work town!  Holy crap!  It’s a small one but seriously those things only happen on tv in other places.  So weird.   And freaky.

Speaking of freaky, have seen that Kripsy Kreme is making green donuts for today?   Ummm, I think they went too far.

Part of me wants to run a 5K this weekend.  Part of me wants to sleep in.  Am I really that lazy?    Or that I doubt my follow through for running another 8 miles after that to finish my long run.

What are you doing this weekend?

Anyone racing?  Any parties?

Anyone sleeping in? 😛

I’m going to San Diego!!!!  Woo hoo!

I wanted to run Rock n Roll San Diego last year but just couldn’t make it work with my schedule or my pocketbook.  I didn’t plan ahead very well.  😛   But I kept it a secret pipe dream until about 1 week before the race.  Then I knew I had to give it up.  Ha!

This year I like to think I’m planning a little better (fingers crossed)!   On June 4, I get to run the half marathon at Rock n Roll San Diego!   I’m super stoked!  And maybe I get to meet some people for real too- Chelsea of thedancingrunner.com will be there, Mai at ifijustbreathe.wordpress.com will be there and Helly of hellyontherun.com too!  Now they are all much speedier than I am but you never know when you might see someone right??   ( I can’t link any of their sites because that feature keeps crashing my computer.  Thanks WordPress.)

I might make a little vacation out of it, not sure yet.  I’m dragging my mom along with me (thanks mom!) and I’m not sure how much time I may have off.  We’ve been wanting to see the zoo.  I also have a Great Uncle down in that area that I haven’t seen in forever.    Now if I could just figure out where to stay.  Seriously, if anyone has any hotel tips, help a girl out!  Most of the ones I’ve found are literally in the middle of the marathon course.   Or $300 a night.     I’ve been stuck on the wrong side of a marathon roadblock before, I don’t really want to do it again.

Any tips for San Diego?

Ever run this race before?
