Rambling On 24

Last ramble of 2017.

I totally just zoned out on the page…oops!

Every year I tell myself to take the week after Christmas off because things always seem to go completely screwy at work and I end up feeling a little ragged.  This week was no different.   Someone remind me of this next year.   Please.

I am behind on my 2017 wrap up post…but if it is still 2017 can you really be behind??? Hmmm.🤔

This week has been weird, sick dogs- Zoey went to the vet, sick coworkers, houses literally on fire- not mine. Like I said before, a screwy week.

Anyone racing on New Years?  How about a Polar Plunge?  I have both options available actually but I don’t think either are likely.    A jump in the ocean doesn’t seem like the best idea for the sore throat and cough that I currently denying exist.  Nope, don’t have time for that.

However, the 3 day weekend sounds very nice.😀

Week 51- Christmas Slacking

In more ways than one. 😛😛

Last week was a little chaotic.   Work was super busy, I was running behind on all things Christmas and I received some not great news about that job interview I had a few weeks ago.    I admit I fell into a cranky funk for a few days but I climbed out of the hole and perked up.  I think….maybe I should get a second opinion on that.

Monday- Christmas shopping.  With barely anything to wrap- this was necessary.   Crossed some things off my list but not much.

Tuesday- Cookie baking!  And eating a few too many.  Also planned. Well, maybe not how many I ate.  Oh and my PT exercises.

Wednesday- Missed run.  My replacement bed was delivered and once again, Pops was there for the delivery.    Instead of running I headed home to take the family out to dinner.

Thursday- 3.3 milesOn the treadmill!!!  Holy crap, who am I? And it wasn’t miserable!    I warmed up with plenty of walking as the treadmill always makes me achy and then I worked on focusing on my cadence.  Both to see if I could improve my average number and if it would help with the on again, off again shin pain.  Partial success to both!  What was not cool was that Monsters Inside Me was once again on the TV in front of me.  Why?!?!?!

Friday-Work My hopes for a calm day were not granted.

Saturday- Missed run.  I had planned on a 6 mile run longish run for the week and scheduled my day accordingly.  However that schedule had me running in the afternoon because I wanted to sleep in.  Which was all fine until my brother decided to take my mother and I to the movies and dinner.    Instead I enjoyed yummy food and walked out of theater with a strange fascination with Adam Driver.  Someone send help.  😛

Sunday- Christmas Eve  Try as I might, I could not get the motivation up to go for a run.   So other than some errands- why did I not grocery shop before Christmas Eve?????- I spent the day with family relaxing and lounging.

So yeah, 3.3 miles for the week.    I’m not going to say ouch because I chose to miss those 2 runs.  I chose dinner and the movies and family time over the runs and I’m ok with that.

How was your week?

How was your Christmas?

Week 50- Behind

Barely running and I still can’t get these recaps up on time lately.  Oops.   End of the year ennui, maybe?  Embracing the inner Slacker? Hmmm.

Maybe I can blame the darkness?  Even though I actually did run more miles in November this year compared to last.  Fingers crossed that pattern holds for December!  Though considering I had the flu from hell last year, that’s a low bar.

Last week saw me starting PT, so you’d think my body would be feeling better.  And it kind of did… on Monday.     And mostly Tuesday.  Too bad I didn’t run those days.  🤔  Instead I deliberately rested since I had run Saturday and Sunday and then had PT.    I completed my PT exercises 3 days last week and would have twice more but my stomach was being a total asshat.   Kind of hard to focus on moves that rely on your core when your stomach is behaving like a demon.   Grrrrr. As for the other 2 days, well that was just me being a Slacker.

So what did happen?

Monday-  Physical Therapy  Why is my right side such a problem child???  And I’m so glad I had the forethought to change into running pants first.  Some of those exercises were awkward enough in pants- what would have happened if I had left my skirt on???  I also experienced a TENS device for the first time.  Kind of odd.

Thursday- 8 miles bike I had planned on running.  Took all of my gear to work with that intention but then the day just ran me down.  Work ran over and I was exhausted and my right leg was oddly sore/ numb.  My head was hurting but I told myself to suck it up and run so I changed into my running clothes and headed for home. Where I somehow put my shoes on the wrong damn feet.  Ok, universe, message received.    I went home and rode the bike instead.

Saturday – 6 miles 6 was always the plan but I underestimated how much smoke was in the air.  Again.  I also may have overestimated what my back was willing to do.  That or it just isn’t used to carrying water with my pack again.  It has been a while.  😛  I felt like I was huffing and puffing more than I would like.  My leg felt tight.  Everything felt rough.  Then my headphones died.  Grrrr.   Of course as I headed towards home, my leg loosened up.   When I looked at my splits later I may have been running a tiny faster than I should have especially considering the air quality.

Sunday- missed run Planned on Christmas shopping and running.  Failed at both.  Went shopping- ALL day but bought nothing and missed my run.

So, 6 miles run and 8 miles bike.  Blah.    Here’s hoping this week is a little better.

Except I already know I have issues.  How is it less than 7 days to Christmas?  I still need to finish shopping.  I haven’t made cookies.  Oh and my replacement bed is coming this week.     Ok, I will gladly miss a run for the bed if the new one is less of a brick compared to the rock I’ve been sleeping on for the last 3 months.  😛

How was your week?

Are you done shopping?

Rambling On 21

I haven’t rambled in a while.  😛

I’m so glad it’s Thursday but I needed more time in this week.  Does that make sense?  I may have over extended myself in November and didn’t quite figure it out until it was too late.    I also didn’t manage my time too well.  That’s all on me.  And it’s not like I was spending it running.

I had an interview today.  Second time I’ve thrown my name in the ring for something in a little over a month.  This is a leap.  I want it.  So of course, before my interview I realize I forgot to print off an extra resume.  Then just before I go in I notice a huge hole in my new heels.  WTH?!  So, of course, that’s on my mind for most of the interview- keep your foot angled in a way that hides the hole.  Grrrrr.

Run Laughlin is this Saturday and I’m super bummed to miss it for the second year.  I’ve never been a bucket list race kind of person but I really want to do this race.  If you’re in the area, you still can and save 20% with BIBRAVE20.  Then tell me all about it.  😉

Not that my leg could handle 13 miles right now.  I took 7 days off.  No, wait….8!  I just had to count on my fingers.  That’s not a good sign.  Maybe I need some sleep.  I haven’t been sleeping well either.  Too wired.  See what even missing my measly running miles does to me???

I am so behind on your blogs-I’ve read, I just need to comment.  I think my computer and browser hate me right now, I have maybe 30 tabs open?   It’s ridiculous.  My plan to get all squared away by end of day Thursday.  I can do it!  🤞

Week 15- Ouch

Upcoming Races:

  • Destination Races Santa Barbara 13.1- May 13
  • Rock N Roll San Diego 13.1-June 4

Ouch, ouch, ouch.  It hurts.  Cue panic.   I have a half in 2 weeks and Wine Country in 26 days.  Why?!?!

This week was tiring.  There wasn’t any real reason I can pinpoint it was just tiring.   I actually bought a few beers to help me relax a bit the last time I was at the store but to show how rarely I drink- when I went to have one I realized I didn’t have a bottle opener.   Well crap.  Who knew those multi purpose race medals would actually come in handy? 😛

After a good week of running last week I was looking forward to more of the same this week.   Ha!

Monday- Rest  I had planned on running after work but things ran a little later than I thought.  This is when the tiredness started.  I was also supposed to help my parents with their taxes so I decided there just wasn’t enough time.  I hate taxes.

Tuesday- Rest Hmmm, apparently this is the black hole day of the week.

Wednesday- 3.5 miles Where it all went to hell.  Ok, maybe that was a tad dramatic.   I headed to home town for what I thought was going to be a nice, easy 4-5 miler.  20 feet in I had a feeling it was going south.  My left knee hurt- like a sharp stabbing pain right under the knee cap.  Do I stop or is it going to work itself out if I run on? I ran on, slowly.   By mile 2ish, my knee was under control but now my left shin was throbbing.   My shin is always a hot point but never usually this bad.  What the hell! I had turned around before that point and was gimping my way back to my car.  Walking made my knee hurt but running aggravated my shin.  Both sucked.   Later that night I had shooting pains in my right leg… compensation maybe?

Thursday- Rest  My knee hurt at odd points throughout the day, I did the smart thing for once and just went home.   This was beginning to get irksome.

Friday- Rest  My knee felt 85% better but my shin was still twinge-y.  For only having hobbled my way through 3.5 miles during the week, I was stupid tired.  I took a nap on my lunch.

Saturday- 4 miles  I helped my mother move a bunch of rocks in the morning which may or may not have been the best idea.    I joked that I was just working on my squats and hip openers.    I headed out for a test run in the afternoon to see how things went.  One thing I changed was my shoes- Wednesday’s run was in the Sayonara’s and this was in the PureFlow’s.  I tried to keep things easy and walked anytime I felt any sort of twinge from my left leg.  All in all, it wasn’t a bad run at all.  If anything, my legs really wanted to run but I wouldn’t let them.

Sunday- 10 miles 2 less then my original planned long run but maybe more than I should have done.   A cool front and an incoming storm meant I could run in the afternoon again.  I helped my mother with more buckets of rocks and then got the run in before Easter dinner.   Can I count all the rock lifting as cross training this week?  I wasn’t sure how many miles I was going to get in but I figured I would give it a shot.     I ran the same route as last week and coming up on mile 4 I knew I had a choice- turn left and turn it into and 8 mile run with more hills or go straight across the bridge for a slighter flatter 10 miles.  I was feeling ok so I headed across the bridge.  Per usual, I picked up the pace running across the bridge and slowed it down after that.   The river path is super over grown right now so lately  I slow down, pause my music and keep an eye out for rattlesnakes.  😕    Coming back across the bridge my leg was starting to talk, not pain but not happy.  Ok, 8 miles would have been a better idea.    I slowed down and just kept moving forward.  I think I can, I think I can.  10 miles done.  Where’s my foam roller?

17.5 miles for the week.   Less then I wanted but more than I thought I would get considering how I felt on Wednesday.   I will be spending lots of time with my foam roller and stretching throughout the week to come.  Maybe this will be the kick in the pants to use the roller more consistently?   As for the pains, I think the knee may be a problem with my shoes.  If so, this is the quickest I’ve ever killed a pair of shoes- the Sayonara’s only have 174 miles on them.  I think I might know what triggered the shin so I am testing a theory this week.

Oh did I mention I tried to knock myself out on a tree branch?  😂😂

Last week had some shiny moments-  I made it to the movies to see Fate of the Furious.  Yeah it had it’s over the top moments but it was still awesome.

How was your week?

Happy Marathon Monday!!!!
